- A. Yes, you can retrieve captions from public YouTube videos without any API key. Both manually added captions and YouTube's auto-generated captions are supported.
- Q. What YouTube URL formats are supported?
- A. Standard URLs (youtube.com/watch?v=...), short URLs (youtu.be/...), Shorts URLs (youtube.com/shorts/...), and direct 11-character video IDs are all supported.
- Q. Can I access private or members-only videos?
- A. No. Private videos, members-only videos, and deleted videos are not accessible. Only videos publicly viewable on YouTube without login are supported.
- Q. What happens if a video has no captions?
- A. If no captions are available, the Captions tab will display a message saying 'No captions are available for this video.' Some videos may only have auto-generated captions.
- Q. What format are downloaded captions in?
- A. Captions are downloaded as a .txt file with one line per caption segment, prefixed with a timestamp (e.g. [0:12]). The filename format is 'videoId_languageCode_caption.txt'.
